Not the End

I must admit that there was more than I needed to know and being just a part time employee who just fills in when someone else can't come in, I'm limited in the time I can work on this stuff. But, it was interesting and there were some things I would like to try more of. I loved the photo site and all the toys. Making gifts for family and friends with the photos will be fun.

In this process, I found one of my sons has a My Space with photo's of himself and his friends. That was fun to see. Nice to know that my kids are ahead of me on the computer. I have someone to call when I need help.

But I think the wiki will be the most useful in the future. I may need to check out some of these ideas at home. Don't have time here at work, but my Internet is slow at home and it takes forever to get the flicker site to come up.

Thank you for the opportunity to learn something new. I will try to keep up on the new stuff.

Wikis

I had been thinking of having my own web site and had no idea of how to go about it. This gives me a starting idea, but I don't want anyone to be able to change what I put on there. I guess I'll need to do a little more learning.

For our city, I'm not sure how much impact this would have. Not many people here use computers in their homes. Probably need another generation for that to happen, but the ideas presented were interesting.

Bookmarks, tags

One more time I am overwhelmed. I looked at the tags out there and it reads like a dictionary. I did enjoy looking at some of the sites tagged "Books". One was somebody's list of favorite book covers for the past 3 years as well as 2008. I love to look at book covers. In some ways I think this influences me in the books I choose to read (but not always).

I can see lots of uses for this, personally and as a library worker. I have always just added web sites to my favorite lists and this was enough for me. I'm not much of an internet user. But to use the tags to see what others think are "good" sites is interesting. Using the sdlib20 account, I can look back at sites we used to cover our lessons and I can now go back and review some of those items that I'm still not sure I understand. It was fun.

Lesson 7

I had some trouble getting this done. The e-mail account I had set up for this challenge did not have any addresses in the address book, so I tried using my personal e-mail account so I could add friends. But that didn't work since it was not one of the ones that were linked to this my space thing. So I ended up finding a way to type in the addresses and I did put 3 of them in. How will these people know I invited them to my site and what will they find there? I'm at a loss as to how this is of any benefit? and I'm not sure what them people I invited will see there except my name. I'm confused on this one.

pod?

Lesson 6

Boy, I liked lesson 6. I do the weekly newspaper column in our local paper with information about the library and things going on there. What I have been doing is working on it either at home or at the library and then saving it to one or the other computers and e-mailing it to myself so I could work on it at the other location. Then I also have to e-mail it to our librarian so she can review it before I send it off to the paper.

This will save a bunch of e-mailing. I can work on it anywhere and she will be able to review it and make corrections or changes if she wants. I can even submit it to the paper this way!
Wonderful!
Well, I had a great time looking at all the pod casts out there...wow! And I did find one I wanted to get on a regular basis, but I was not successful in getting it to download to my blog. The best I was able to do was to have it listed as a favorite on this computer, which I only use when I'm at work.

Is everyone having trouble with this or is it just me?

Lesson 4b

I don't even know where to start...should I make a calendar with my son's pictures, or a deck of cards with their baby pictures on and give them for Christmas? But the one "toys" that attracted my attention right away was the Bead Art. I've always loved beading, and I like needle work too, like counted cross stitch. With the bead art application, I can take the picture of the sun set (or any other) and turn it into a beautiful beaded wall handing or cross stitch framed picture. I could probably stretch the idea and use it to make stained glass panels of my favorite photo's.

But the sad truth is I'm a Readaholic, and I probably won't do any of those things any time soon, because there are so many books, and so little time.

Koh Lanta Surprises!

Here is the photo I picked out. I can almost feel myself sitting on the hill top (after reading a good book all day) and enjoying this sunset.

I was totally surprised by the flickr web site. I didn't even know there were sites like this and the number and range of photos was ...wow!(I'm from the days when we only got TV on one station from 5 p.m. to 9p.m. otherwise it was a test pattern. ) It would be tempting to spend all day looking at the photos and where they all came from. But I'm just a worker bee, so I need to get back to that.

Thanks for doing this challenge; I would not have explored the internet like this without it.

Lesson 3

Right now my head feels like it is too full. Way more information than I could process at one time sitting here in the library. This is one that I'm going to have to do over, slowly, at home to let it sink in.

Rss-ing seems like the perfect way to get to all the points you want to check back on, but I have always just used "my favorites" buttons. This will be easier, but right now I feel overwhelmed. Tomorrow it will sound a little more familiar, and I'll go from there.

I hope I'm not the only one feeling this way. After I get all the RSS's set up, I'll be interested in reading the other blogs I'm linked to.

Lesson 2

This blogging doesn't seem to hard. I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Lesson 1

When I had first started my job with the government, many years ago, I worked with a man who would jump up at any time of the day and say, "I learned something new." He just loved to "learn something new each day" and made a celibration out of it. I missed him when he retired.

What is easy for me is to view a problem as a challenge. I've always tried to keep a cool head and start by listing what my options are and asking someone else if they can think of any other options.

I've never begin with an end in mind. That sounds difficult becasue I've always just waited to see what will come next. (and I've already had trouble downloading the contract...I'll give it a try at home on my computer, where I'm more familiar)

My First Blog

I remember it was about three years ago, asking a co-worker what a Blog was. She didn't know either. I'm still not sure what this is, but I'll see what happens next.
